Metal Separations

The team specializes in all kinds of metal separations technology including the design and synthesis of organic ligands, polymers, and resins for separations. The target metals have included actinides, and lanthanide, toxic and RCRA metals (e.g., Hg, Pb, Cd), and oxyanions (e.g., Cr, Se, As, Mo, W). Technology areas include dispersionless liquid-liquid extraction, ion exchange, polymer filtration, and other membrane-based separations. The team works closely with industry to commercialize separations technology with Polymer Filtration (ultrafiltration with water-soluble metal-binding polymers) being a new technology that has been brought to market.
